Recap, Aug 26, 2026

We smashed the over tonight. Cold the last two nights, different story here. Feels good to be back in the win column.

Rockies won 13-1. Colorado’s offense showed up and ran the Nation’s Capital. Combined 14. That’s a win on Over 9.

Colorado scored 13 on 15 hits and 4 homers, almost all after Waldron was gone. They put up 4 in the fifth, 4 in the seventh, and 5 in the eighth. The fifth was Troy Johnston (Rockies DH, hitting 8th) going out to right-center for his 4th of the year, then Cole Carrigg (Rockies CF, hitting 2nd) for his 6th. The seventh was Connor Norby (Rockies 2B, hitting 7th) with a grand slam, his 6th. Hunter Goodman (Rockies C, hitting 3rd) went deep in the eighth for his 36th.

Washington scored once, a second-inning homer from Andrés Chaparro (Nationals 3B, hitting 5th), his 9th of the year.

Tanner Gordon (Rockies RHP) did not falter like we wrote coming in. He went 7 innings, one earned run, six hits, five strikeouts, no walks, one homer, 90 pitches. He got the win. Matt Waldron (Nationals RHP) threw two scoreless innings, two hits, one walk, one strikeout, 28 pitches, and he was done.

The over came from Colorado against Washington’s bullpen. Will Dion (Nationals LHP) took the loss: 2.2 innings, four earned, two homers. Luis Perales (Nationals RHP) two innings, four earned. Orlando Ribalta (Nationals RHP) two-thirds of an inning, four earned.

We wanted two rough starters and two lineups that score at a 9. We got one lineup plus a bullpen dump, and that was enough. What went against the write-up was Gordon throwing seven innings of one-run ball, and Washington’s bats staying at one. If Colorado stays quiet with that, 9 crumbles. They did not stay quiet.

Balls hung in the air at Nationals Park. Gorgeous night for baseball: partly cloudy, 84 degrees, wind 9 mph out to left.
