Recap, Sep 24, 2026

Miami Marlins 1, Chicago Cubs 2 — combined total 3. Over 7.5 is a miss.

The case was that neither starter covers six clean innings: Tyler Phillips carrying 52 walks and 17 homers, and Matthew Boyd with three or more earned in three of his last five. A 7.5 asked for traffic. What showed was the fade we named.

Phillips lasted 4.0 with three hits, four walks, and no runs — short, but clean. Boyd went 7.0 and allowed one earned on five hits. The Marlins scratched once in the third on Brian Navarreto's double and Jakob Marsee's RBI single. That was their only run.

Once Phillips was lifted, Jack Ralston took the middle. Seiya Suzuki's solo homer in the fifth and Ian Happ's triple into Nico Hoerner's RBI single in the sixth put two on the board for Chicago; Ralston finished 1.1 with two earned. Josh Ekness and Victor Vodnik threw zeroes after that; Daniel Palencia and Ryan Zeferjahn closed it.

Three runs, final. The over never threatened after Boyd worked deep and the early innings stayed quiet.
