Eddy Pineiro hit a 44-yard field goal with 1:56 left to break a 29–29 tie, and Seattle never answered. 49ers 32, Seahawks 29, so 49ers +3 at −110 wins, and San Francisco won the game outright.
San Francisco led 21–13 at the half after Gracen Halton recovered a fumble in the end zone with 13 seconds left in the second quarter. Seattle scored 13 straight in the third on two Jason Myers field goals and a Jaxon Smith-Njigba touchdown to lead 26–21. Brock Purdy found Brandin Cooks early in the fourth and then hit Mike Evans for two to retake the lead, and Myers tied it from 40 yards before Pineiro's kick. Seattle's Sam Darnold threw for 195 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, and Christian McCaffrey ran for 68 yards and a score on 11 carries.
The case was that a field goal was too much to give a 4–0 team, and the game came down to one.
