Recap, Oct 8, 2026
With one out in the sixth and seven runs already on the board, Travis Bazzana doubled off Anthony Kay to score Angel Martínez, and the total was gone. Guardians 9, White Sox 5, so Under 7 at +103 loses, and the Division Series is tied 2–2 with Game 5 in Cleveland.
Neither starter got through the third. Hagen Smith walked three and left with the bases loaded and two outs in the first. Parker Messick walked four in 2⅓ innings, and Chicago scored twice in the third on a bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly. Patrick Bailey and José Ramírez homered in the fifth, and Chicago answered with a hit batter and a sacrifice fly for 4–3. In the sixth, Grant Taylor faced six batters without getting an out, and Cleveland scored six. Miguel Vargas homered in the ninth.
The case needed starters who could carry the middle innings. Both were gone early, the two staffs walked 15, and a total of 7 left no room for a bullpen to have one bad inning.
House 23–20.
