Recap, Aug 28, 2026

We smashed the over this afternoon. Last night the under crumbled. Feels good to be back in the win column.

Reds won 10-8. Combined 18. That’s a win on Over 9.

Cincinnati scored 5 in the sixth and 2 in the seventh. Chicago answered with 4 in the eighth. Six homers, four for the Reds and two for the Cubs.

What decided it was Trent Thornton (Cubs RHP). He threw two-thirds of an inning, five earned, two homers. Jose Trevino (Reds C, hitting 8th) went out to center for his 5th, then Tyler Stephenson (Reds DH, hitting 4th) hit a three-run shot, his 13th. Sal Stewart (Reds 1B, hitting 3rd) had already gone out in the fifth for his 29th.

Rhett Lowder (Reds RHP) went 5 innings, three earned. David Peterson (Cubs LHP) went 5, two earned. Ordinary starts. Not the leak. The over came from the bullpen and both lineups.

We wanted two guys who’d been getting hit and a 9 that looked light. We got the number. The fade was Cincinnati only scoring about 4.1 a night. They did not stay quiet.

Wrigley, sunny, 77 degrees, wind 6 mph right to left. Not a weather ticket.
