Giants 1, Cardinals 2. Three runs. Over 7.5 never got close.
Quinn Mathews went 6.2 innings with one earned run, four hits, and eight strikeouts. The Cardinals scratched two in the fifth on singles from Alec Burleson and Leo Bernal, and that was the ballgame. Jonah Cox singled home Grant McCray in the sixth for San Francisco's only run. Landen Roupp lasted 4.1 with two earned and three walks — enough traffic, not enough support behind him.
We bought mid-4 handles and Mathews' WHIP as the soft spot against seven-and-a-half. The WHIP did not show. Mathews missed bats, worked late, and the under never left the building. Seven-and-a-half looked soft on paper; three runs on the board is the other end of that bet.
The fade we named was Roupp going deep while Mathews settled in. Mathews settled in. Roupp did not go deep. That half of the script landed; the over half did not.
Yesterday's Angels–Nationals over cashed at eleven. Tonight the total goes quiet. Tough beat. We'll get them next time.
